Date: 01st May 2021

Mr. Patrick Acquah (in green), a Cartography Officer with the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has received a national award from the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for his invaluable contribution to the labour movement in Ghana.

Mr Acquah was honoured at the National Workers Day Celebration held in Accra on 1st May 2021.

Present at the ceremony were the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; the leadership of TUC and various labour organisations.

Mr Acquah, who is stationed at the Kejebril District CHED office in the Western Region, has over a 30-year working experience within the cocoa industry and presently in his third term as the Regional Chairman of the General Agricultural Workers Union of Ghana (GAWU).

Throughout his career, the Cartography Officer has effectively combined his official duties at CHED with assignments from GAWU and TUC.

Over the decades he has held various positions at GAWU, and by dint of hard work, rose through the ranks from a District GAWU Representative to the Chairmanship position.

GAWU is an agricultural trade union working to protect the interest of workers both wage earners and non-wage earners. It is an affiliate of the TUC and the biggest trade union organizing farmers and agricultural employees in Ghana.
