Cocoa is Ghana

A four-day exhibition of cocoa in-puts and products has been opened at a ceremony held at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani, the regional capital of the Bono Region to kick start activities marking the 2019 Cocoa Day celebration.

Agro-input dealers, Cocoa processors, chocolatiers and other stakeholders are showcasing their various products for cocoa farmers and the general public, especially those within the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Siakka Stevens expressed appreciation to the leadership of COCOBOD for the honour done the region by selecting Sunyani as the venue for this year’s Cocoa Day celebration.

He said agriculture is the leading occupation of people in the region and this justifies the choice of Sunyani venue for the celebration.

‘Farmers will have the rare chance of directly discussing the methods of applying inputs with the suppliers and also be able tell the dealers some observations and clarifications in applying them on their farms’, he said.

“Our expectation is that farmers will seize the opportunity to purchase what is required of their cocoa farms and other related cash crops to support the quest for sustainable cocoa economy as well as Government‘s flagship programme of Planting for Food and Jobs”, he added.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Sunyani Municipal Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Justina Owusu Banahehe, in her statement touted cocoa as the backbone of Ghana’s economy and urged the youth to venture into cocoa farming rather than engaging in illegal activities especially galamsey which destroys cocoa farmlands and the eco system.

Rev. Dr Emmanuel Ahia-Clottey, Executive Director of the Seed Production Division (SPD) of COCOBOD, who doubles a Chairman for the 2019 Cocoa Planning Committee expressed COCOBOD’s appreciation to all sponsors and exhibitors for their contributions to the success of the celebration.

He urged the farmers and people and farmers of the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions to take advantage of the exhibitions and benefit from everything on display.

The opening was preceded by a health walk through the principal streets of Sunyani with the exhibition running from Saturday 28th September to Monday 1st October, 2019 at the Jubilee Park.
