The Bunso Cocoa College (BCC), a division of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has held its third graduation ceremony, with a strong call on graduates to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship in agribusiness. Graduates were urged to apply the knowledge acquired to make meaningful contributions to the cocoa sector.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of COCOBOD, Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, congratulated the graduands for their dedication and perseverance in becoming part of the 2025 graduating class. He noted that they are entering the workforce at a critical time of transformation within the cocoa sector.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo encouraged the graduates to translate their academic training into modernising and strengthening extension service delivery, supporting national cocoa rehabilitation efforts and the development of commercial cocoa plantations.
He reaffirmed COCOBOD’s commitment to continuous training at Bunso Cocoa College, describing the institution as a pillar of excellence in agricultural extension and agronomic services, vital to ensuring the sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
The Rector of Bunso Cocoa College, Dr (Mrs) Mercy Asamoah, welcoming the graduating cohort into the BCC fraternity, highlighted that the college, established by COCOBOD in the 1950s, remains committed to training students based on its core values of integrity, excellence, commitment, and loyalty.
These values, she noted, have contributed significantly to increased productivity and quality research in agricultural extension. She emphasised that the graduates are poised to become problem-solvers and innovators capable of addressing challenges such as climate change and illegal mining, which continue to affect productivity.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the event, Osabarima Abbeam Brakatu Adinkrah II, the Chief of Bunso, Baffour Odiasempa Amanfopanin commended the Management of the Bunso Cocoa College, COCOBOD and stakeholders for their role in the steady progress of the college, which has become a centre of academic excellence in agronomy and extension services delivery in Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Dennis Worlanyo Aheto, the head of the Department of Environment, Governance and Sustainable Development of UCC, Professor Emmanuel Tenkorang congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their Diploma programme.
He noted that their graduation formally validates them as graduates of UCC, owing to BCC’s affiliation, and urged them to demonstrate commitment and professionalism in applying their acquired knowledge.
The Chancellor of Bunso Cocoa College and Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr Ransford Abbey, on behalf of the Board and Management of COCOBOD, offered employment opportunities to three graduating students and one former student in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
In total, 61 students were awarded Diplomas in Agronomy and Extension in Cocoa and Coffee Production.
