The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has intensified stakeholder engagements across cocoa-growing regions following the recent producer price review and ongoing sector reforms. The outreach forms part of efforts to deepen transparency, strengthen collaboration, and address concerns within the cocoa value chain.
Head of Public Affairs, Mr Jerome Kweku Sam, led engagements in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Western North Regions. On Monday, 23rd February 2026, he visited a cocoa farm at Old Adiembra in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality in the Western North Region, where he interacted directly with farmers on industry challenges and the implications of the recent producer price adjustment.
He explained that the price review was largely influenced by global market downturns beyond local control and highlighted the proposed Cocoa Bill, which seeks to guarantee farmers 70 percent of the world market price.
In the Central and Volta/Oti Regions, Deputy Public Affairs Manager, Mr Benjamin Larweh, engaged frontline staff and executives of farmer associations during meetings held in Swedru and Hohoe. These sessions brought together COCOSHE executives, farmer cooperative leaders, Regional Managers of COCOBOD, CHED district and extension officers, SPD officials and QCC representatives to discuss sector reforms and the producer price review. He outlined the key structural challenges which have necessitated bold reforms.
Participants were assured that cocoa delivered to COCOBOD prior to the recent price adjustment would be paid at the old rate, with outstanding payments currently being processed.
Beyond pricing reforms, COCOBOD will also implement initiatives aimed at strengthening cocoa-growing communities, including scholarships for children of farmers at the tertiary level, free distribution of fertilisers and agrochemicals, and plans to process at least 50 percent of Ghana’s cocoa domestically to promote value addition and job creation.
Farmers welcomed the engagements, called for sustained consultation and transparency, and pledged continued collaboration to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
