Mr. Edward Kwame Yeboah of Yawhenekrom in the Mankranso District of the Ashanti Region has been honoured as the 2025 National Best Cocoa Farmer at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, Volta Region.
Mr. Yeboah, aged 46, who is also a professional teacher and a graduate of a tertiary institution and COCOBOD’s Farmer Business School Programme, diligently manages seven cocoa farms covering 123.69 hectares in total. Part of the farmlands was inherited, while others were purchased outright.
His contributions have previously earned him the District Best Cocoa Farmer award in 2018 and the Ashanti Regional Best Cocoa Farmer award in 2021. In the 2024/2025 crop season, he produced an impressive 406,707.69 kg of dried cocoa beans.
In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Yeboah received a Toyota Hilux double-cabin pick-up, a standard pruner, a motorised sprayer, and an overall with a hat and safety goggles. Other items included a respirator, ear protectors, hand gloves, a Polo T-shirt, wellington boots, cartons of Royal Natural cocoa powder, Alltime, 50 g chocolate, and a crystal plaque.
The celebrations also recognised other exemplary farmers. Madam Cecilia Addai of Pomaakrom in the Sankore District, Ahafo Region, was named the National Most Enterprising Female Cocoa Farmer. At 81, she manages four farms spanning 31.28 hectares and achieves an annual yield exceeding 100 metric tonnes.
Mr. Akwesi Sey, 35, from Banso in the Tarkwa District, Western South Region, also emerged as the National Most Promising Young Cocoa Farmer, with 12.17 hectares of cocoa under cultivation.
They each took home a mini truck, a tricycle (respectively sponsored by WCF and Meiji), a standard pruner, a motorised sprayer, and an overall with a hat and safety goggles. Their prizes also included a respirator, ear protectors, hand gloves, a Polo T-shirt, wellington boots, cartons of Royal Natural cocoa powder, Alltime, 50 g chocolate, and a crystal plaque.
In addition, Mr. Kwesi Gyan of Konteykrom, Techiman District, Bono East Region, was honoured as the National Best Coffee Farmer, and Ms. Aminatu Sule from Jagsi, West Mamprusi District, received the National Best Shea Picker award.
Each awardee received prizes, which included a mini truck, hand gloves, wellington boots, an overall with a hat, a Polo T-shirt, a machete, cartons of Royal Natural cocoa powder, Alltime, 50 g chocolate, a crystal plaque, and a certificate.
The 41st National Farmers' Day celebration was themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” highlighting the government’s commitment to boosting food self-sufficiency and agricultural sustainability. It also underscores the importance of adopting home-grown solutions by encouraging citizens to support local farmers, consume locally produced foods, and contribute to the country’s economic resilience.
Some one hundred and forty (140) best cocoa farmers and shea nut pickers at the regional and district levels were also awarded.
Since 1985, the annual Farmers’ Day celebration has seen COCOBOD honour the exceptional efforts of cocoa and coffee farmers and shea nut pickers across Ghana. These awards, presented at national, regional, and district levels, recognise individuals whose dedication supports their industries and inspires excellence among their peers.
