Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) wrapped up its regional post-producer price announcement sensitisation tour with a series of rallies across the Eastern Region.
This final encounter follows successful engagements in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Western North, Western South, Volta, and Central regions.
The interactive sessions, organised in collaboration with the Cocoa Health & Extension Division brought together cocoa farmers, chief farmers, group leaders, and traditional authorities to discuss the 2026/2027 cocoa price structure alongside key provisions of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026 (Act 1182).
Addressing the gatherings, Mr. David Asare Oduro from COCOBOD's Public Affairs Department outlined the new pricing formula, highlighted legal safeguards designed to protect farmers' livelihoods, and clarified major offences detailed in the Act. He took the opportunity to dispel lingering myths surrounding the new legislation, urging chief farmers and executive members to actively educate their peers on its contents.
In response to questions regarding whether the new law governed the latest price determination, Mr. Asare answered in the affirmative and illustrated the processes involved.
He reassured farmers that their interests remained fully protected, advising them to dismiss claims that COCOBOD had shortchanged them in the new cocoa price. He emphasised that Act 1182 explicitly guarantees farmers at least 70% of the realised FOB (Free On Board) price.
"Under this law, COCOBOD has no intention of taking over your lands or farms," he stated. "Instead, the legislation establishes strong protections for your farms, incomes, and livelihoods."
He further cautioned farmers against accepting short-term financial inducements to sell or convert their land for other uses, warning that such temporary relief often leads to long-term loss.
Meanwhile, the nationwide sensitisation campaign aims to reaffirm COCOBOD's strong commitment to building a sustainable future for local producers, one that transforms cocoa farming into an attractive, lucrative venture for the next generation.
