REJOINDER: CLARIFICATION ON MISREPORTING OF COMMENTS BY CHIEF EXECUTIVE ON SMUGGLING OF COCOA BY RUSSIANS

Date: 11th September 2024

The attention of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has been drawn to a misreporting by starrfm.com.gh, and subsequently by other media outlets, regarding comments made by the Chief Executive, Hon Joseph Boahen Aidoo on the sidelines of a recent engagement with cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region.

We wish to clarify that the Chief Executive did not, at any point, attribute the ongoing cocoa smuggling activities to the RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT. Rather, he expressed worry about miscreants in Ghana, smuggling cocoa to certain foreign individuals, including Russians, who are based in neighbouring countries.

This clarification is crucial, as the misreporting has the potential to create unnecessary diplomatic tension, which is uncalled for.

We urge all media houses to ensure accuracy in their reportage, especially on sensitive matters that could have international implications. COCOBOD remains committed to working with both local and international partners to resolve the issue of cocoa smuggling and safeguard the industry.
