The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Hon. Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has pledged to uphold high standards in policy-making, emphasising integrity and accountability throughout his tenure.
He underscored the significance of the cocoa sector in Ghana’s economic development, noting its longstanding role in sustaining livelihoods across the country and the need to preserve this legacy for future generations.
“Cocoa has sustained the economy through numerous policies dating back to the era of Nkrumah and continues to support cocoa-growing families to this day. Therefore, there will be no room for mediocrity”, he said.
The board chairman made these remarks during the inaugural meeting between the Board of Directors and COCOBOD's senior management, held at Cocoa House in Accra.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo assured stakeholders that while COCOBOD’s current financial challenges have been well acknowledged, they present a golden opportunity to implement transformational reforms.
He expressed confidence in turning around the fortunes of the organisation through prudent financial restructuring, with a goal to reposition the state institution into a financially viable entity.
He further highlighted his vision for a farmer-centric administration, indicating that the present leadership would ensure effective communication with cocoa farmers, improve the delivery of farming inputs, minimise resource waste, and enhance efficiency across the cocoa value chain.
He asked fellow board members to ensure that their policy contributions are guided by the needs of farmers, even as they advocate for the interests of the various groups they represent.
On administrative matters, the board chairman stressed the importance of setting attainable targets and closely tracking progress to ensure meaningful outcomes. He reaffirmed the board's focus on delivering results that directly benefit farmers and stakeholders in the cocoa industry.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo also called on COCOBOD’s management and technical experts to provide the necessary support and expertise to drive the board’s transformational agenda.
He concluded by commending the Chief Executive and the management team for their prompt and proactive approach to addressing issues, despite their relatively brief period in office.
