CMC GOES 24/7 TO DRIVE GHANA'S COCOA EXPORT MOMENTUM

Date: 22nd August 2026

The Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), a subsidiary of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has officially launched its landmark 24-Hour Cocoa Operational Model.

Developed in direct alignment with the Government’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development initiative, this strategic evolution aims to spur job creation, drive export growth, and modernise Ghana’s cocoa trade infrastructure.

The move, dubbed "Load 24, Offload 24, and Export 24," transitions CMC’s core operations from traditional daytime hours into a continuous, round-the-clock machine.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Board Chairman of COCOBOD and Special Advisor to the Vice President, commended the leadership of COCOBOD and CMC for repositioning CMC to meet global demands.

He emphasised that time zone differences should never create bottlenecks for global trade partners. "Trading activities must flow seamlessly across global time zones", he noted.

Delivering remarks on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development, highlighted the broader socio-economic goals of the transformation.

According to him, the initiative is built to strengthen cross-border commerce, improve supply chain resilience, and create sustainable local employment opportunities.

COCOBOD Chief Executive Dr. Randy Abbey outlined comprehensive administrative and policy interventions to sustain the initiative. He also addressed the newly passed Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, urging stakeholders to embrace its protections for cocoa farms and farmers' livelihoods against environmental destruction and market volatility.

The Managing Director of CMC, Dr. Wisdom Dogbey, detailed the company’s operational restructuring, noting that continuous operations represent a critical economic imperative. Dr Dogbey further noted that by operating non-stop, CMC aims to eliminate port delays, speed up vessel turnaround times, and integrate fluently into international trading cycles.

According to him, this strategic operational shift marks a major turnaround in how CMC does business with the world.

The high-profile ceremony brought together key industry stakeholders, including government officials, representatives from the Tema Traditional Council, the MP for Tema East, Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), international shipping lines, cocoa processing firms, and executive directors across COCOBOD’s subsidiaries.
