The Cocoa Pest and Disease Control (CODAPEC) Unit, in collaboration with the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has successfully completed Phase II of its farmer engagement and monitoring programme in the Eastern and Central Regions.
The exercise focused on sensitising key stakeholders and assessing progress in the ongoing Free Agro-Inputs Distribution Programme, while gathering valuable feedback on implementation across selected cocoa-growing communities.
In the Eastern Region, the team engaged stakeholders in Suhum, Oda, Buadua, Kade and Asamankese, while in the Central Region, engagements were held at Ajumako, Asikuma and Agona Nyarkrom.
The engagements brought together Society Chief Farmers, spraying gangs, task force members and COCOBOD staff. Discussions centred on the modalities of the programme, eligibility criteria and the processes governing the distribution of agro-inputs to eligible cocoa farmers.
Beyond sensitisation, the team placed particular emphasis on stakeholder feedback, identifying implementation successes, challenges and communication gaps requiring attention. The exercise is expected to contribute to improving the effectiveness, transparency and reach of the programme.
The Phase II engagement was led by Seidu Iddrisu Abu, National Coordinator of CODAPEC, and Benjamin Larweh, Deputy Head of Public Affairs.
The engagements form part of COCOBOD’s broader strategy to strengthen support for cocoa farmers and ensure the successful implementation of interventions aimed at improving cocoa tree health, restoring soil fertility, increasing farm productivity and promoting sustainable cocoa production across the country.
Through continuous stakeholder engagement, monitoring and feedback, COCOBOD remains committed to ensuring that critical interventions reach eligible farmers and deliver the intended impact on Ghana’s cocoa sector.
