CRIG HOLDS 32ND ANNUAL REVIEW MEETING

The Cocoa Institute of Ghana (CRIG) has held its 32nd  Annual Review Meeting at the institute’s Recreational Centre at New Tafo Akim. 

The programme, which started from Tuesday, 28th May to  Friday, 31st May 2024 brought together, scientists from CRIG's key divisions, academia and sister research organisations to discuss 2023/2024 progress reports and work plans for the ensuing crop year. 

In all, fifty-seven (57) presentations were delievered by scientists from the Soil and Crop Management, Crop Improvement, Plant Diseases Management, Insect Pest Management, System Assessment and Analysis Thrusts.

Prof. Joseph Fening, who is the chairman of CRIG’s Management Committee in his remarks, thanked the participants for continuously organising themselves for fruitful engagements and sharing knowledge over the past 32 years. 

He urged them to continue in their respective fields to conduct quality research to address major bottlenecks to high productivity and sustainability of the industry. Prof. Fening was confident that if Ghana Cocoa Board adopts the findings from the presentations into its mainstream businesses, challenges to farm management will be addressed to guarantee a prosperous sector.

For his part,  the  Executive Director of CRIG, Dr Francis Padi, was grateful to the invited scientists for honouring the invitation. Dr Padi was particularly enthused by the excellent views and suggestions they made towards the success of the meeting, adding that their inputs would go a long way to improve research work at CRIG. 

Present at the meeting were, Rev. Edwin Afari, Executive Director of Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED); Mr. Lawerence Adutwum, Executive Director, Seed Production Division (SPD); Mr. Lemuel Ollennu, Human Resource Manager, CRIG; Dr. Solomon Gyan, Director, Crop Services Department - Ministry of Food & Agriculture and Dr. Hayford Ofori, Food Research Institute.

Others included, Prof. Grace Van der Puye- University of Cape Coast, Prof. Akwasi Abunyewa, KNUST, Dr. Adjebeng Danquah, CSIR- Savanna Agricultural Institute, Mr Paul  Adjei and Mr. Charles Owusu, Management Committee members.
