CRIG JOINS CHIEFS TO CELEBRATE OHUM

Date: 18th July 2023

The management of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) joined the chiefs and people of the Abuakwa North Municipality in celebrating the 2023 Ohum Festival.

The delegation, led by Dr. Samuel Lowor, Deputy Executive Director for Coffee, Shea, and Cashew, was welcomed at the Awansa Palace by Qsabarima Adusei Peasah IV, the Akyem Tafohene.

The Ohum Festival, also known as the Yam Festival, is celebrated annually to mark the beginning of the new yam season and to launch the consumption of the new harvest. The occasion is a time to give thanks to God Almighty, the gods, and the ancestors, as well as to seek their protection for the coming year.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr. Samuel Lowor conveyed CRIG's solidarity to the chiefs and people towards the development of their communities and lauded the peaceful co-existence between the community and CRIG over the years.

As a token of their contribution to the celebration, CRIG presented customary items to Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV of Tafo, Daasebre Boamah Darko of Kukurantumi, Osabarima Abiam Brakatu II of Bunso, and Barima Ata Awuah Kwakye of Ati.

The delegation included Dr. Richard Adu Acheampong, Deputy Executive Director in charge of Cocoa and Kola; Mr. Lemuel Ollennu, Human Resource Manager; Mr. Richard Berchmans Armah, Principal Public Affairs Officer; and Mrs. Mateko Nhyira Kwarteng, Principal Human Resource Officer. Also present were Mr. Emmanuel Ewe, Chief Technical Officer, and Madam Eva Yeboah, Assistant Administrative Officer.
