GHANA COCOA BOARD SHOWS SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL CULINARY COMPETITION

Date: 03rd June 2024

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has expressed its solidarity with the 2024 National Culinary Competition, held at the Labone Senior High School in Accra. This year’s event, themed, "Fostering the Eat-Ghana Agenda," had Labone SHS-Accra, Wesley Girls SHS -Cape Coast, Ghana SHS - Koforidua, and St Louis SHS - Kumasi competing in the grand finale.

The Deputy Public Affairs Manager of COCOBOD, Mr. Benjamin T. Larweh, who represented the Board at the event, commended the Ghana Education Service for promoting vocational education by recognizing and nurturing the talents of young chefs.

Mr. Larweh explained the importance of local ingredients and traditional recipes, stressing the versatility of cocoa in Ghanaian cuisine. He therefore encouraged participants to explore innovative cocoa-based recipes and entrepreneurial opportunities in the cocoa sector.

According to him, COCOBOD’s objective aligns with the "Eat-Ghana Agenda," by promoting the use of local ingredients and supporting local farmers. He praised the participants, teachers, and judges for their dedication and passion for the culinary arts.

The Cook-art competition, introduced six years ago by the GES, aims to foster a sense of pride in Ghana's national identity and promote Ghanaian cuisine, and COCOBOD’s support demonstrates its commitment to promoting the country's agricultural bounty and cultural heritage.

The event was attended by officials of the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, corporate institutions, students, and other stakeholders in the education and culinary sectors.
