The Gender Desk of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) of Ghana Cocoa Board, Dunkwa District, under the auspices of the District Cocoa Officer (DCO), Mr Peter Arthur, with the full support of the Dunkwa District staff, has taken a remarkable step in advancing Girl-Child Education in the Western South Region.
Through this benevolent initiative, the collective effort of the staff has successfully secured admission for Ms Abiba Issah, a brilliant daughter of a cocoa farmer from Akyenekrom (Amoafo Operational Area) in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, into the Dunkwa Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
The initiative, spearheaded by our District Cocoa Officer through the Gender Desk, highlights the commitment of Dunkwa District in ensuring that the children of cocoa farmers, particularly young girls, are given equal opportunities to pursue their dreams.
Beyond securing the admission, the staff demonstrated genuine care by contributing generously to pay Ms. Abiba Issah’s fees and purchasing the items on her prospectus. In addition to this, the staff went a step further by personally accompanying her to school, ensuring she was fully settled in and ready to embark on this exciting new journey.
The District Cocoa Officer, Mr Peter Arthur, in an interview, disclosed that the move is not only a life-changing opportunity for Ms Abiba but also a shining example of how community-driven support can empower the next generation.
He added that the initiative reflects CHED’s broader vision of investing in the future of cocoa farming families through education, with a special focus on the girl-child.
