The Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) of COCOBOD in the Western North Region has organised a farmer education rally at Bibiani to raise awareness of chemical residues in cocoa beans and the harmful effects of illegal mining on cocoa production.
Over 300 farmers and representatives from the Quality Control Company (QCC), Seed Production Division (SPD), Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), and COCOBOD’s Regional Administration participated.
Speakers, including Mr Wilson Yeboah of QCC and Mr Frank Osei Kofi of CHED, stressed the need for adherence to COCOBOD-approved pesticides and proper application practices to avoid high chemical residues.
The Regional Administrator of COCOBOD, Mr Enoch Ampofo, urged compliance with sustainability standards such as the EUDR and GCTS to protect Ghana’s cocoa reputation. Participants called for stronger action against illegal mining to protect cocoa livelihoods.
