CHED WESTERN SOUTH HOLDS PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS AND SCREENING EXERCISE FOR FARMERS AND STAFF

Date: 02nd October 2025

The Gender, Child Labour, and Environment Desk of CHED Western South, in partnership with Medimoses Clinic and the Prostate Cancer Centre, has organised a week-long Prostate Cancer Awareness and Health Screening programme for staff and cocoa farmers.

The exercise, which took place from Tuesday, September 23rd to Friday, September 26th, 2025, was held at the CHED Western South Regional Office and extended to three cocoa districts — Diaso, Dunkwa, and Wassa Akropong.

The awareness campaign forms part of global efforts to highlight September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, with the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives.”

The initiative focused on promoting and encouraging early detection and prevention of prostate cancer, as well as other health conditions that often go unnoticed until they reach advanced stages.

A total of 502 participants, comprising 420 cocoa farmers and 82 staff, benefitted from the screening exercise.

The comprehensive medical package included prostate examinations for men, kidney, liver, and spleen scans, fibroid screening for women, and blood pressure checks to monitor hypertension.

Health professionals from Medimoses Clinic also offered educational sessions on the importance of regular medical check-ups, lifestyle adjustments, and early detection in fighting life-threatening conditions.

Many participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to undergo health checks within their communities, describing the programme as both convenient and life-saving.

The Regional Gender, Child Labour, and Environmental Issues Coordinator of CHED Western South, Ms Akua Yeboah Oduro-Owusu, commended participants and partners for supporting the initiative, stressing that the exercise underscored the value of investing in health today to prevent future complications and regrets.

“CHED Western South remains committed to creating platforms that promote the well-being of our staff, farmers, and their families.” She noted.

She therefore encouraged all participants to prioritise regular health screening as part of their lifestyle.
