The Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) has received One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh ₵160,000.00) from Omni Group, an agro-input manufacturing company, to bolster its initiatives supporting cocoa farmers and increasing community engagement through radio and other forms of mass media.
The donation was received by the Acting Executive Director of CHED, Dr. Richard Adu-Acheampong at a brief ceremony in Accra.
The CHED-Omni Cocoa Radio programme aims at educating farmers on the core activities of CHED, which mainly involve pest and disease control, application of fertilisers, and education on best farming practices.
During the presentation, Dr. Adu-Acheampong expressed appreciation to Omni Group for their continuous support, stressing that “the funds will be instrumental in strengthening educational and extension activities among cocoa farmers, as well as expanding the reach of community radio programs dedicated to farmer empowerment.”
He observed that CHED plays a pivotal role in improving farmer productivity, adding that partnership with Omni Group underscores the shared commitment to improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
Dr. Adu-Acheampong, therefore, noted that with such support, “CHED will be able to enhance our extension services, provide more vital information, and promote sustainable farming practices through its radio engagements.”
Briefing participants on the radio operational nature of the radio programme, the Acting Deputy Executive Director in charge of Extension, Mr. Majeed Mumuni, said the radio programme serves as a means to reach out to farmers, particularly in remote areas where accessibility becomes a challenge for Community Extension Agents (CEAs).
The Coordinator at Omni Group in charge of the Radio Programme, Shaban Abdul-Manaf, also expressed gratitude to CHED for the guidance and technical support to the company, which he noted has been vital to the success of the company.
“We acknowledge the role CHED has played, particularly in the manufacturing of some of our flagship agro-inputs such as “Kookoo Aduane” and “Kookoo Agyenkwa” which have become choices for many cocoa farmers in the country”, he noted.
He pledged the company’s continuous support for CHED and the entire cocoa sector.
