COCOBOD's Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Taskforce and the Ghana Police Service at the Ada District, acting on intelligence, intercepted two tipper trucks at Big Ada yesterday. The trucks were carrying a total of 238 bags of cocoa, believed to be on their way to Togo via the sea. Preliminary investigations revealed the cocoa was loaded in Dome, Accra. The police have since handed the cocoa over to COCOBOD for preservation pending further investigation. Three suspects and the two vehicles are currently in custody at the Ada District Police. Please be aware of the use of tipper trucks and sea routes in smuggling operations and remain vigilant.
In a related case, Juaso District Police, following a tip-off, intercepted a vehicle last night carrying 51 bags of cocoa intended for smuggling out of the country. The occupants escaped during the interception. The cocoa is now secured at the Kase takeover centre in Kumasi, while the suspected vehicle is held at the Juaso District Police premises.
