The Deputy Director of Human Resources at Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Mrs Paz Owusu-Boakye, has urged women to prioritise their life and health, describing it as their most valuable asset.
Speaking at the official launch of the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month by the COCOBOD Ladies’ Clubs across its Subsidiaries and Divisions, Mrs Owusu Boakye emphasised the importance of being proactive about personal health and wellbeing, particularly regarding early screening for breast cancer.
“Early detection saves life, to that end remember this powerful truth – your life is your most precious asset, protect proactively” she stressed.
The Deputy Director assured staff that COCOBOD is committed to ensuring that every woman in the organisation, from the Head Office to the field, has access to early screening opportunities.
“As part of activities slated for October, the Human Resource (HR) Department, together with Cocoa Clinic, will organise awareness seminars and facilitate breast cancer screening sessions for staff and stakeholders. I urge every one of you to participate and encourage your colleagues to do the same,” she added.
The launch also featured an insightful talk by Dr Boniface Wedam Adigah, General Surgeon at Cocoa Clinic, who highlighted the importance of early detection in saving lives. He noted that late diagnosis often stems from low patronage of screening exercises, fear of being diagnosed and in some cases, financial constraints.
Dr Adigah encouraged participants to go beyond annual awareness activities and become advocates of breast cancer education and screening.
“Let’s not limit awareness to October. Screening is key to early detection. Do not wait to feel a lump - get screened,” he advised.
He shared practical tips on self-examinations, the significance of clinical examinations such as mammograms and ultrasounds and risk factors associated with breast cancer.
The 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness month is being marked under the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters”. The theme recognises the diversity of experiences as well as the uniqueness of each individual’s diagnosis and journey, emphasising the importance of timely screening, support and compassion for breast cancer patients.
